Retract what’s been etched in stone

Father, all I want is to recluse,
Retract what’s been etched in stone, the past we’ve signed our names on.
Seems like we’ve been given the highest, the utmost,

But, Jesus, I’m tired of this circular thinking, this patterned mindset.
We’ve given up living for rigid allocations,

And guilt keeps trying to make us ashamed of our hindsight.
We can’t and won’t, but we must trust your grace and mercy,

Step by step, you lead, like an artist before us,
Seems like a thin line, with almost nothing left to offer.
But, God, I know when we’ve been filtered,

When the graffiti fades, when we should have been pouring, not resisting,
You meet us here with supernatural power and miracles.

I guess this is what they meant by living by your spirit, by faith, not by sight.
